VLOP's Night on the Serengeti

Village Life Outreach Project, our partner organization who we work with closely in Nyambogo and Burere, is having their annual fundraiser in a little less than a month.  It's a fun night of African cuisine, dancing, and more.  Take a look at their flier for all the details.

Exec Dinners - Ramping up for Fall Quarter

Sorry, if updates have been a little sparse over the summer; we've been hard at work doing stuff behind the scenes, like dealing with all the data from our very successful summer trip, or finalizing the Burere school design.

One way we're doing this is through exec dinners, which have grown into a bit of an EWB tradition.  Somebody hosts at their house and cooks a meal and others can bring some dish too.   As you can see from the picture, our latest dinner was chicken fajitas at my house.

But don't worry, besides eating a delicious meal, we got a lot of work done.

We narrowed down candidates for a new EWB mentor:
Look for more on that in the coming weeks as things get finalized!

Project Updates:
Phase I of the Burere school is planned for this December, Nyambogo assessment this summer went great and they're processing all the data from it, and Otho Abwao is pushing forward on design to hopefully start construction of their school this spring.

Our brand is getting updated:
While we really did like our old logo, EWB-USA gave us a new one with a few new guidelines so we're working on merging that with what we have.  That means new T-shirts, posters, fundraising documents, and everything else in-between.

Fundraising is ramping up:
Look for a big push for corporate donations this fall supported by all new fundraising documents(if you have any corporate contacts, please let us know, we can use all the help we can get).  Also, the Burere travel team has already started doing small-scale fundraising events to raise money for their travel costs.

Education Committee off to a great start:
Despite only just forming the Education committee by combining our Health and Culture committees, we've got some exciting progress and many new members.  Look for staples like Lights Out Friday to continue, but new initiatives like an afterschool program to start up.

Recruitment is going to be huge:
We've already started reaching out to a few listservs already, but we're also ramping up a full recruitment for fall quarter.  Expect a huge crowd at the 1st general meeting!

Online going into overdrive:
Look for more frequent posts on the blog, plus more pictures and updates in general.  We're also looking into expanding into other digital ways of getting the word out. (Look for the EWB_UC twitter coming very soon)

And even more:
Believe it or not, there's even more where this came from.  Once a few of our other ideas and initiatives evolve into a more concrete form, you can expect to hear about them too!
